Client Seminar

B&P Glocal holds regular seminars to share with clients our recent research findings. Our Team will make presentations on selected topics and answer clients’ questions. A typical client seminar runs half a day and is usually free-of-charge to our clients and invited guests.

Training

B&P Glocal conducts training sessions for clients on a wide range of topics. We share our insight, analytical framework, methodology and research/consulting processes with our clients to help build capacity and deepen understanding about specific topics. The training could last from half a day to a couple of weeks. Speakers could include both B&P Glocal staff and external experts from industry, governments and international organizations.

Executive Briefing

Dr. SHEN, Xu-hui, Simon

Dr. Simon Shen is the Founder of B&P Glocal International Studies. He is an active International Relations scholar in Hong Kong and is currently an Associate Professor at the Chinese University of Hong Kong and a Senior Visiting Fellow at the East Asian Institute of the National University of Singapore.

He is also an Adjunct Researcher at the Asia-Africa Development Research Institute, Development Research Center of State Council of PRC; Vice Director of Asian-European Research Institute, Xi’an Jiaotong University, Adjunct professor, Hong Kong Center, Syracuse University and Lead Writer (Global) of Hong Kong Economic Journal.

Dr. Simon Shen serves as the Division Head of Research & Academic Development, Yew Wah Education Institute; Founding Chancellor, The Roundtable Social Science Research Network; Chairman of Powersoft Consultancy Limited; Chief Administrative Executive, B&P Charity Foundation and Chancellor, Hong Kong International Relations Research Association.

He holds a PhD degree in Politics and International Relations from the University of Oxford, and obtained both his Masters degree in Political Science and Bachelor degrees in Political Science and History, summa cum laude, from Yale University.

Mr. Jeffrey Phoenix HUI

As the Managing Director of InnoSights Limited, Chairperson of Hong Kong Institute of Marketing (HKIM) and the founder of the “Purple Oceans Strategy”, Jeffrey is most experienced in providing training, workshops, talks (over 1,000 sessions) and consulting services to the elites from many high-profile corporations, including: L’Oreal, Maybelline, Garnier, Gillette, Venus, GSK, 3M, Pfizer, Nestle, HSBC, UBS, Deloitte, Cathay Pacific, Inchcape, New World Group, etc. Moreover, as a well-rounded marketing and training professional, Jeffrey served at various top-notch organizations, including P&G, Cathy Pacific, TVB, RTHK, The Chinese University of Hong Kong and King’s Glory Education.

He is a leading expert in Strategic Brand Management, Strategic Digital and Social Media Marketing, Strategic Marketing and Strategic Salesmanship and Consumer Insights. While conducting profound research in business theories and practices, he has extensively interviewed, face-to-face, over 1,000 reputed CEOs, business and community leaders from a wide range of fields in Hong Kong and the Greater China. His knowledge in marketing and brand management is second to none.

Dr. Kai-chi LEUNG

Dr Kai-chi Leung received his PhD in geography at the University of Minnesota. His research interests include urban studies, technology and society, globalisation and international development. He is currently a part-time lecturer at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Besides, his academic commitment, he also shows strong interest in community participation, including various local urban contestations. He often serves as a guest host of a radio program on Hong Kong commercial radio, and is a regular contributor to newspapers and magazines in Hong Kong.

Dr. Elvis LIU

Dr. Elvis Liu is currently an Assistant Professor in the School of Computer Science and Engineering at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. His current research focuses on military simulation systems, high-performance computing, and distributed virtual environments. Before coming to Singapore, Dr. Liu was awarded an Irish Research Council Fellowship to conduct research at IBM Research, Ireland. His research at IBM was focused on simulations for exascale supercomputers. The culmination of his IBM career is marked by an award-winning publication, which was selected as a “Best of Computing” article in 2014 by ACM Computing Reviews. He was also a Research Fellow of the Performance Engineering Laboratory (PEL), University College Dublin and The Irish Software Engineering Research Centre (Lero). Previously, Dr. Liu was a Research Associate and a Visiting Lecturer at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, working on a government-funded project that developed a middleware to support online game development. In 2006, this project received a Silver Award from the China Association of Inventions on the 16th China National Invention Exhibition. Dr. Liu obtained a Ph.D. degree from the University of Birmingham and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Hong Kong.

Dr. Simon LUI

Dr. Simon Lui is currently an Assistant Professor of the Information Systems Technology and Design Pillar (ISTD), Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD). Simon received his Ph.D. degree in Computer Science from The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) in 2011. Simon was a Marie Curie Fellow in 2011. He was a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL), Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 2013.

Dr. Lui’s primary research interests are audio engineering and semantic audio information retrieval. Dr. Lui has been the PI of 6 research projects and directly managed over S$ 1.2 million budget over the past 4 years. Most of them are very competitive grant with less than 20% acceptance rate. Dr. Lui is currently leading the SUTD Audio Research Group with 9 researchers, consists of post-docs, research assistants and PhD students. He is also the director of the SUTD Game Lab with 7 developers and designers.

Dr. Stephen R. Nagy

Dr. Stephen R. Nagy has been an Associate Professor in the Department of Politics and International Studies at the International Christian University since September 2014. Previously he was an Assistant Professor at the Department of Japanese Studies at the Chinese University of Hong Kong from December 2009 to January 2014. He obtained his PhD from Waseda University, Japan in International Relations in December 2008.

His recent funded research projects are “Sino-Japanese Relations in the Wake of the 2012 Territorial Disputes: Investigating changes in Japanese Business’ trade and investment strategy in China”. Currently he is conducting a research project on the entitled “Perceptions and drivers of Chinese view on Japanese and US Foreign Policy in the Region”.

He has published widely in peer-reviewed international journals such as China Perspectives, East Asia, the Journal of Asian Politics and History and the International Studies Review on topics related to trade, nationalism and China-Japan relations. He has also published in think tank and commercial outlets such as the China Economic Quarterly and the World Commerce Review on trade and political risk and provides consulting services related to political risk in North and Southeast Asia.

In addition to writing in media and policy forms outlets in Japanese and English such as Diamond OnLine, South China Morning Post, the Japan Times, East Asian Forum and Policy- net on issues facing the region, Dr. Stephen R. Nagy is a frequent television political/ economic and security commentator on Japan-China-Korea.
